after filming and editing here is the final preliminary task video.

Preliminary StoryBoard

In order to plan the filming of our task we made a storyboard noting all the different angles and
shots we would be using throughout our short scene.
We have included notes and rough pictures to produce somewhat of a "play-by-play" of what our
peice is intended to show.


Below are the ideas we have produced -

Preliminary task script

The brief for our AS preliminary task is this

"Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule."

With this in mind my group and i set to work on a simple script with back and forth dialogue which would allow for us to use a range of angles and camera shots.
Our scenario is that of two characters having a conversation about a mysterious parcel entitled
"the thing".

character one walks down the corridor towards the meeting room, placing hand on the handle  and opens the door.
Character one: where have you been?
Character two: What do you mean?
Character one: I have been looking for you for ages.
character two: oh I see, i apologise, I was working on "the thing"
Character one: the thing is of great importance, I understand.
character two slides a brown envelope across the table, with a "? mark" on it, while giving a knowing
 look.
Character two: you should leave now.
character one departs swiftly.

Once the character is outside the envelope is turned  over and says"DO NOT OPEN , PRIVATE " , she  then procedes to open the parcel and reveals the fact it is a cookie , continuing to end the scene by eating the cookie and walking away.

Easy A "walking scene" Camera Shot Analysis.

A peice of homework set last week was to pick a short clip and analyse the use of different shot types. I Picked a clip from one of my favourite films "Easy A" , i decided to look at four main shots that cought my attention.

00:07 –  This is a wide shot of busy hallway, right from the start you can notice the approaching main character. By doing this it makes it feel as if this character is going to do something to be the centre of attention, giving an “all eyes on her” effect. The shot stays still also so as not to attract attention away from the approaching action.

00:09- the quick snap from wide shot to close up of bust is used to make the viewer really take notice and gather the point of the scene , the large “A” pinned across the bodice of the corset has clear significance and is brought up straight away by being shown in a large clear way.

00:20 a higher mid shot to show the characters features , to show how she stands out from the crowds and to note people’s reactions when she walks through the crowd so swiftly. Lets the viewer have a taste of this persons appearance and personality.

A very interesting shot, taken from a side angle with panning to show what it would be like to have this character walking past you making an obvious scene and making all eyes follow her. This gives you a “inside the film” point of view.

Overall the genral shots used in this short clip are mid shots and close ups's i believe this was done as there is a heavy focus on facial expressions and the genral look of the character overall.
